A True Creative Shows Us How to Effortlessly Style Our New Linen Pieces

“When you wear linen, there will always be some wrinkles. It’s about accepting imperfection, and that’s the beauty of it.”

By Madeleine Kim

I’ve always admired the personal style of M.M.’s Graphic Designer, Yan. You probably won’t be surprised to hear that the creative mastermind behind many of our beautiful emails, Instagram posts, and webpages really knows how to dress. Her outfits are effortlessly elegant and have an air of ease and comfort. And it’s obvious that she’s thoughtful about the pieces in her wardrobe: each silhouette, fabric, and color fits into a tightly curated visual language that feels quintessentially her.

Back when we were going to the office, Yan’s summertime wardrobe was largely composed of breezy linen pieces in a calming palette of beachy neutrals. So, when we found out that we’d be releasing new linen styles for summer, we knew we had to have her take them for a spin. (These pieces aren’t officially launching for a few more days, but we’re giving you a chance to shop them early.)

Here’s how Yan makes the most of her favorite warm-weather fabric.

Monochrome Magic

If linen is the ultimate summer fabric, light, neutral, and monochrome is the ultimate summer color palette. The Chadwick sweater is as lightweight as they come, and in pearl, it’s an excellent complement to the subtle color variation throughout the Chester pants in natural. “I wear these pieces all day long, from desk to couch,” says Yan. “When you wear linen, there will always be some wrinkles. It’s something I embrace, because it fits the nature of the fabric and its natural, raw feeling. It’s about accepting imperfection—that’s the beauty of it.”

Chambray Chic

In peak summer heat, full-on denim just isn’t an option. But you can still get the look and vibe of denim by wearing airy linen in our new dark chambray color. “I love how these linen pieces are breathable and don’t cling to my skin when the weather is hot and sweaty,” says Yan. “But despite being so lightweight, they also provide coverage.” The Annika T-shirt looks more polished than a cotton tee, but it has the same casual feel. Pair it with the Zhou culottes in fog for a tonal look that’s summery but subtle.

Feel-Good Fabrics

Aside from a bathing suit and SPF, there’s no better warm-weather combo than a silk T-shirt and linen shorts—especially when they’re both washable. The Annika tee in cactus has just the right amount of color, and the Caitlin shorts in biscotti will keep you comfortable on those days when it feels too hot to do much of anything. “The neutral biscotti color is easy to pair with most pieces in my closet, from regular black and white basics to some bright pieces,” says Yan. While she hasn’t worn much green in the past, Yan started adding it to her wardrobe this year as a mood booster—a style decision we can all get behind.
