4 Super-Chic, Menswear-Inspired Looks Anyone Can Pull Off

M.M.’s Brand Stylist, Nyjerah, shows us some of her favorite ways to style pants this summer.

By Madeleine Kim

We’ve always loved a menswear-inspired look. From oversized blazers and boyfriend jeans to impeccably tailored suits with super-sharp lapels, menswear is full of classic design elements that anyone can pull off—regardless of gender. And while, for many people, this summer is all about dresses, there are others who feel best in pants. One of those people is our Brand Stylist, Nyjerah, the brilliant mind behind many of the outfit combos you see on our website. She styles menswear-inspired pieces (think: relaxed-fit pants, oversized button-downs) better than anyone else I know, so I asked her to share some easy-yet-chic outfit ideas.

The Professional Tracksuit

Personally, I’m loving the current trend of wearing all oversized everything—in large part because it’s just so comfortable. The Moreland jacket and (elastic-waist!) Wesley loungers take the comfort factor to the next level, because they’re made of an amazing fabric called OrigamiTech. In addition to being machine-washable and wrinkle-resistant, OrigamiTech is ultra lightweight and smooth against the skin. In other words, it feels like you’re wearing a tracksuit. You could wear these pieces with an equally comfortable underpinning, or you could just go topless—your call.

The Between-Seasons Look

At some point, you might have been taught not to mix pieces from different seasons in the same outfit. We say forget that rule. After all, how are you going to minimize your cost per wear if you’re only wearing your pieces for half the year? For those in-between weather days, tuck a cashmere hoodie and striped muscle tee into a pair of mid-length shorts for a casual outfit that still looks like you made some effort. White sneakers and silver hoops pull the whole ensemble together.

Playful Proportions

If the last year has made you forget that getting dressed can be fun, this inventive outfit is an excellent reminder. Play around with your wardrobe, try pairings you’ve never tried before, and just go for it. I’ve always believed that cropped jackets needed to be paired with tops of equal length or shorter—and this look proves that I couldn’t have been more wrong. The wide-leg Milo jeans and Lagarde shirt create a streamlined look, while the cropped Anna jacket breaks up the silhouette and creates a kind of color-blocked effect. All I can say is chef’s kiss.

A Timeless Statement

I’m a sucker for a great pair of lapels. And I can think of no better example than the wide lapels on our (currently-on-sale) Jensen trench—a truly timeless piece you’ll wear for years. With such a great coat, you can keep the rest of your outfit simple and classic with some well-fitting black trousers, a crisp white T-shirt, and gold hoops. Drape the striped Samara sweater over your shoulders for an extra layer that doubles as a stylish accessory.
