5 Ways to Style Our Beaded Tie

December 08, 2016 | Filed in: Your Closet

Here at MM, we’re not shy about taking inspiration from menswear—as long as it’s on our terms. A relaxed, machine-washable pantsuit that drapes just so? Check. Soft pinstripes on a tailored sheath dress? Double check. So why not adopt the cornerstone of a man’s wardrobe—the necktie—and make it our own?

One part necklace, one part scarf, our ties are made from top-quality silk and glass beads, embellished by hand at a family-owned factory in Mumbai. Like many of our clothes, their elegance stems from their subtlety: They pack a punch without being too flashy.

Why wear a tie? First of all, Marlene Dietrich. And second, it’s exactly the type of accessory your chicest friend would try (especially if she’s French, or named Angelina Jolie). And while there’s nothing wrong with a classic gold necklace, there’s something to be said for trying an unexpected accessory during the holidays—this is the time to shine, after all. (Think of this as a sophisticated alternative to sequins.)

Our ties are also extremely versatile: Wear them with a sleek dress for your company’s holiday party, or a sleeveless top and jeans on Friday night. Below, MM stylist Pauline models a few of our favorite looks.

1. The Undone Tuxedo Look

Tie Necklace // MM.LaFleur

Pauline wears the Lagarde shirt, the Foster pants, and the black and white beaded tie.

When: You’re in the mood to let loose.
How to style it: Thread the tie under your shirt collar, and voila: a look that’s both stylish and effortless.
What to pair it with: A classic white button-up and your trusty black pants.

2. The Better Belt

When: You’re heading to your friend’s holiday cookie exchange and steering clear of all things form-fitting.
How to style it: Wrap the tie around your natural waist and secure with a single knot.
What to pair it with: A breezy shirtdress, gold drop earrings, and a plate of snickerdoodles.

3. The Modern Choker

When: You’re going straight from the office to happy hour and need to tszuj up your outfit.
How to style it: Wrap the tie once around your neck, and secure the ends with a loose knot in the front.
What to pair it with: A lapeled shirt like the Franklin gives the illusion of a full suit and tie ensemble, but with a chic twist.

4. The Monday Morning Refresh

When: You need something fun to power through your Monday morning meetings.
How to style it: Drape the tie over your neck and tie one loose knot at your chest.
What to pair it with: A red or berry top, for double tonal impact. To balance proportions, try a form-fitting shirt on top and a wide-leg silhouette on bottom.

5. The Grab & Go

When: You’re running late to your mother-in-law’s holiday party and haven’t a minute to spare.
How to style it: Couldn’t be easier. Just drape the tie over your neck, and you’re ready to roll.
What to pair it with: A fabulous dress, heels, and a red lip.
