The Woman Behind the Dress: The Unstoppable Narie

September 15, 2016

Narie, MM.LaFleur’s co-founder and COO, is one of the biggest driving forces behind this company. So it’s fitting that her namesake dress—part of the original seven that made up MM’s very first collection, which debuted in 2012—has proven to be a dependable, get-it-done staple.

It’s also a perfect dress for Narie, who’s almost shark-like in her constant movement, whether she’s unpacking office snacks into the fridge or whizzing from meeting to meeting. “I’ve probably worn it over 100 times,” she says. “My job entails running around a lot, and especially in the early days of the company, I did a lot of physical labor—carrying hundreds of dresses, being on my feet all day, pitching investors.” Made of a thick, soft, stretchy fabric and characterized by its elbow-length sleeves and notched neckline, the dress is incredibly resilient. And, as Narie points out, “It never shows when you’re sweating, which is important if you’re nervous, or just hot after lugging boxes around.”

More from Narie on the Narie:

Favorite part about the dress: “The sleeves. They’re all-season and slimming. And I love the simplicity of the cut. It will never feel wrong.”

What she and the dress have in common:  “We’re versatile. And we can blend into a crowd without being boring. We won’t be the loudest in the room, but we’ll still make a statement.”

If she could could put anyone in this dress, it would be: “Alicia Florrick from The Good Wife. She’d look great in it, and she’s also a badass and polished at the same time.”
