Why I Own These Pants in Every Single Color

When the pants are so good you have to go back for seconds, thirds, and fourths.

By Madeleine Kim

It’s been almost a full year since I welcomed to my wardrobe the pair of pants that cured my outfit-related decision fatigue, and I’m happy to report that they haven’t lost their magic. I’m talking, of course, about the Colby joggers—the pants I turn to whenever I don’t know what to wear (often), because they’re perfect for just about every scenario. Not only do they have all these features I didn’t even know I needed—wrinkle-resistance, machine-washability, zipper pockets, an elastic waistband—but they also make me feel put-together and stylish in an “Oh, these? I just threw them on” type of way.

Slowly but surely, I’ve stocked my closet with every color we make in the Colby jogger—after all, they barely take up any space when they’re tucked into their compact storage bags. And when I saw that we were releasing them in a new color, dusky blue, I knew I had to complete my set. Here are five ways I’m styling the Colby joggers in every color.

The Stepped-Up Sweatshirt Look

In the winter, if I get dressed without thinking, I’ll inevitably end up in all black, maybe with a splash of navy to really spice things up. So dressing in light, borderline spring-y colors at this time of year feels intentional and refreshing. The Sharon top is one of my favorite pieces M.M. released in 2020, because it’s basically a sweatshirt with a turtleneck and bell sleeves—a delicious trifecta second only to the combination of pasta water, pecorino romano, and freshly cracked black pepper. I’m excited to pair my Sharon with the Colby joggers in our new dusky blue color, which playfully toes the line between neutral and pastel. Stylish sneakers and silver hoops complete the look.

The Turtleneck Look with a Twist

Ever since the Axam turtleneck came into my life, I’ve had to make a concerted effort not to wear it every day. But sometimes, I just can’t resist that buttery, Pima-cotton hug, even when it’s already been an Axam-heavy week. Such moments call for a bit of creative layering, and lately, I’ve been giving my turtlenecks a different vibe by wearing them underneath a white button-down. I like this look with the Colby in olive for some color, the Rowan flats in embossed croc for texture, and the Piper earrings for sparkle.

The Outfit I’ll Wear Pink for

Historically, I have not been a big wearer of pink. But when I saw our new rosewater color, I couldn’t resist—it’s just so happy. It also didn’t hurt that it’s available in three 365Knit tops I love dearly: the Choe, Peggy, and Giulia. My favorite way to wear rosewater is with garnet—a rich wine hue that contrasts beautifully with light pink. The Colby joggers in black and the comfy but elegant Zelda boots complete this power-casual look.

The Happy Cloud-fit

Do I need a cream-colored cashmere hoodie? Of course not. Does wearing one make me feel like I’ve floated into the sky and become a happy cloud in a Bob Ross painting? A thousand times yes. And once you try the Judith hoodie, you’ll know exactly what I mean. Wear it with the equally soft Leslie T-shirt, the Colby joggers in olive, and bold earrings to show you made some effort.

The 5-Shades-of-Gray Look

I just tried our new knit boucle pieces for the first time, and I can already tell they’re going to be true staples in my wardrobe. Interwoven black and white threads give these pieces dimension, but you can treat them like neutrals in terms of styling. Pair the Barbara sweater with the Colby in cool charcoal and white sneakers for a full-gradient tonal look, and tie the matching Butler sweater around your waist for more definition. It may not be 50 shades of gray, but it’ll do for date night.
