About the Event

In the vein of Where’d You Go, Bernadette and Fleishman Is in Trouble, Plays Well with Others is a wickedly funny and incisive debut novel by Sophie Brickman. It follows a mother trapped in the rat race of NYC parenting—as her life unravels before her eyes. For this conversation, author Sophie Brickman will be joined by journalist Ashley Parker. Co-sponsored by Old Town Books; books will be available for purchase and signing.

About Sophie Brickman

Sophie Brickman is a writer, reporter and editor based in New York City. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Saveur, The San Francisco Chronicle, the Best Food Writing compilation, and the Best American Science Writing compilation, among other publications. She is currently a columnist at The Guardian.

Her first book, Baby, Unplugged, about the intersection of parenting and technology, was published by HarperOne in Fall 2021, received a starred review from Publisher’s Weekly, and landed her a spot on Good Morning America. Plays Well With Others is her first novel.

About Ashley Parker

Ashley Parker is senior national political correspondent for the Washington Post, and a three-time Pulitzer Prize winner. Most recently, she served as the White House bureau chief, covering the first two years of the Biden presidency, as well as the entirety of the Trump presidency.

She joined The Post in 2017, after 11 years at the New York Times, where she covered the 2012 and 2016 presidential campaigns, and Congress, among other things. She is an NBC/MSNBC senior political analyst, and has also written for The New York Times Sunday Magazine, Glamour, and The Washingtonian, as well as other publications. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2005, with a degree in both English and Communications, and lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband, New York Times political correspondent Mike Bender, and their three daughters.
